I never really considered "hook-based racing" a valid game genre, but Rocketcat Games (http://www.rocketcat-games.com/) managed to prove me wrong twice with "Hook Champ" (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/tag/hook-champ/) and "Super Quick Hook." (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/06/21/super-quickhook-brings-snes-style-swinging-to-iphone/) Both games are among the best software to be found in the App Store, and when you've got a good thing going, why change it? Rocketcat is working on a brand new hook-based racing game entitled "Hook Swing Worlds" which is set to launch in October for 99 cents.

The concept for "Hook Swing Worlds" is to take the popular Avalanche Mode from "Super Quick Hook," but to blow it out with different themes, abilities and characters. Similar to games like "Canabalt," "Hook Swing Worlds" gives players one simple goal: Survive. To this end you've got a hook (natch) and different abilities, depending on the character and level you're playing.

For example, one of the levels has an aged explorer escaping a large demon (pictured) through a series of jungle ruins. He comes equipped with rocket boots, a staple of previous Rocketcat titles. In another level, you're a gnome from the future with the ability to reverse gravity. If your mind isn't spattered across your computer screen right now, you were probably already dead to begin with.

Additional details on "Hook Swing Worlds" are coming next week, but based on Rocketcat's pedigree, it's hard to imagine that it won't be well worth the dollar they're asking. You can also expect plenty of post-release content to keep things fresh and, more than likely, there will be a lot of hats to collect. Because who doesn't like hats?
